FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know before visiting BNI Upper Canada — cost, categories, meeting logistics, and what membership actually asks of you.

What is BNI?

BNI (Business Network International) is a structured referral-marketing organization. Chapters like ours meet weekly, follow a fixed agenda, and exist for one purpose: helping members pass real, qualified business to one another under the philosophy of Givers Gain — give business first, and business comes back.

How much does it cost to visit?

Visiting as a guest is free. You are welcome to sit in on a meeting, meet the members, and see how the format works before deciding whether to apply for membership. Membership itself carries chapter and BNI dues, which are discussed if and when you apply for a seat.

Can two people share a category?

No. Each chapter allows exactly one member per profession or specialty — that is the entire point of the seat map. It removes internal competition and means every referral the room makes for your category goes to you, not a rival in the same room.

What time and where are meetings?

Thursdays at 9:00 AM. The first Thursday of each month is in person; all other Thursdays are on Zoom.

How do I join?

Start by visiting a meeting as a guest — that is the best way to see if the chapter and your category are a fit. If your industry seat is open and both you and the chapter agree it makes sense, the membership committee will walk you through the formal application.

What's expected of members?

Consistent attendance, active participation in the weekly 60-second introductions, and a genuine effort to bring qualified referrals to other members. BNI tracks referrals and attendance because the value of the room depends on everyone actually giving, not just receiving.

Do I need to bring anything as a first-time guest?

Just yourself and a short idea of what you do — you may be invited to introduce yourself briefly to the room. Business cards are helpful but not required.
